From Alimarket:
Fernando Carreras, CEO of Carreras Grupo Logístico, has presented the opportunities and challenges facing the logistics of the future at the XII Alimarket Logistics Consumer Goods Meeting. For the executive, today, the first need of any supply chain is the adoption of advanced technologies, especially in terms of information and data mainstreaming. “Without technology, logistics operators are left behind,” he says. Given the difficulties that affect daily logistics operations, from the lack of drivers to the different regulatory frameworks and the challenges in terms of cybersecurity and digitalisation, “we must bet on the use of autonomous solutions, to improve safety and efficiency, and incorporate artificial intelligence (AI), to optimise routes, predict maintenance and improve planning“.
The other great opportunity lies in specialization. To this end, it is essential “the creation of new circular economy sectors, with flows of new goods and energies”. At the same time, “it is time to take advantage of the current framework of business concentration and take more steps towards internationalisation”. This is according to the head of the group, which already has a turnover of €400 million, operates in almost a dozen countries outside Spain and has a fleet of 1,000 vehicles and more than 720,000 m2 of surface area under management.
As for the required sustainability, Carreras has clearly opted for biodiesel, as opposed to other options such as electric vehicles and hydrogen. “It is biofuels that are really working well in reducing emissions, with percentages reaching 80%.” Fernando Carreras also did not want to miss the opportunity to highlight the importance of collaboration between the different links in the supply chain. “The great improvement in the sector will be found in the collaborative culture and transparency of information between operators, manufacturers and distributors in the supply chain.”
