Carreras, the first logistics operator to achieve its 3rd Iberian Lean & Green Star for its sustainability

3ª Estrella Lean & Green

Carreras Grupo Logístico obtains its 3rd Iberian Star Lean & Green thanks to its constant effort to develop a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy and operational model.

Carreras, which already achieved the Lean & Green Third Star certification in 2023, has renewed this award to include its operations in Portugal. In this way, Carreras becomes the first Spanish operator to achieve this milestone. This initiative promoted by AECOC (The Association of Manufacturers and Distributors) in Spain distinguishes the leading companies in reducing emissions.

The company has placed the decarbonisation of transport at the heart of its environmental strategy. To this end, the logistics operator is working on projects with the aim of developing hybrid energy ecosystems around its warehouses conceived as nodes capable of generating, storing and managing renewable energy.

The company is already reducing emissions in the short term through the use of advanced biofuels and other measures that allow a cleaner and self-sufficient logistics model to be consolidated:

  • Intelligent energy management systems in buildings, designed to optimise energy use and maximise self-consumption.
  • Internal mobility solutions based on photovoltaics, hydrogen consumption and dual battery systems.
  • Projects for the installation of stationary batteries to increase operational autonomy and reinforce the stability of the energy system.
  • Pilots and specific projects with electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles for external mobility and long-distance distribution.
  • Fleet renewal and driver training.
  • Wind farms through their specific subsidiary.

In addition, as a complement to its reduction and efficiency actions, Carreras is promoting CO₂ absorption projects linked to fields and agricultural environments, contributing to regenerating soils, increasing biodiversity and capturing carbon naturally.

Thanks to this comprehensive strategy, Carreras Grupo Logístico is managing to consolidate a sustainable operating and energy model, where photovoltaic generation, battery storage, intelligent management of logistics centres and fleet renewal are integrated into a single system.

In short, this recognition certifies the company’s continuous commitment to innovation, technological progress, energy efficiency and decarbonisation.
