Carreras Grupo Logístico has been recognised with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Banco Sabadell Company of the Year Awards organised by EL PERIÓDICO DE ARAGÓN. On behalf of the chairman, Miguel Carreras, and on behalf of all the people who make up the company, Fernando Carreras, CEO of the group, thanked Beatriz Urgel, Sales Director of Úbico, for the recognition.

Carreras looked back to recall a relevant moment in the company’s trajectory such as “internationalisation and the creation of a new logistics division” which, as he explained, allowed them to “provide customers with the services they demanded and move away from land transport to give them a complete logistics solution”. In addition, looking to the future, he pointed to digitalisation as “a fundamental challenge to recover the competitiveness that is being lost on the other hand”. He also identified sustainability as another of the challenges, although he pointed out that the main challenge facing both him and his siblings, who are the third generation, “is to know how to transmit to our children the values that my father, founder of the group, transmitted to us”.

From the first truck to being a benchmark in logistics

Because it was 1933 when Jesús Carreras Pomar, founder of the Carreras Group, acquired the first truck for the transport of goods. Almost a century later, the company has logistics platforms and warehouses scattered throughout the Iberian Peninsula, more than 2,600 employees, a fleet of about 1000 of its own vehicles and the management of approximately twice as many vehicles on a day-to-day basis. But the growth of this benchmark company in transport and integral logistics is still linked to Zaragoza and the Carreras surname, to its origins.

In this sense, Fernando Carreras, CEO of the Carreras Group, does not leave aside the roots that have allowed them to structure and grow strong throughout these 93 years: “Carreras began his journey in a town in Los Monegros, La Almolda, with a truck. Little by little, the company grew, expanded and entered new sectors.” Currently, it offers services in all links of the supply chain: national and international transport, storage, distribution, handling, copacking, pallet making, logistics consulting, air and sea transit, as well as customs management and commercial outsourcing.

In addition, in the last year it has strengthened its network with new platforms in Valladolid, Valencia, Zaragoza and Seseña.

This is the long history of a company that has been able to diversify and encompass new sectors of activity that have allowed it to transform and adapt generation after generation. From road transport to becoming a comprehensive logistics operator that today moves a turnover of 415 million euros, spread over 52 delegations and 700,000 m² of warehouses, being the leading operator in the mass consumption sector in Spain and Portugal.

In a recent interview he gave to EL PERIÓDICO DE ARAGÓN, Miguel V. Carreras, director of the Carreras Group at the age of 91, already made clear what the keys to success had been: “First, work. Without work you don’t do anything: work, work and work. I learned that from my father. Secondly, seriousness and honesty are important. And third, the illusion: that work is not a punishment, but a tool that develops you, makes you better and allows you to bring out what you have inside.”
